Biography

Becca James is a London-based spiritual alt-pop artist and songwriter originally from the North of England. Her cinematic sound blend pop, folk and soul influences, while her organic vocals and lyricism explore trauma, recovery, identity and transformation. Drawing on her lived experiences of scoliosis surgery and long-term illness, Becca’s music finds strength in vulnerability and celebrates resilience.

Her debut EP Trust the Season (2023) was released across full moons, earning a Spotify editorial placement. She followed with If You’re Not Home (2024, via AWAL)  alongside a collab track 'Can’t Stop My Shine' with US producer Soulplusmind, which later featured in Netflix’s Wellmania starring Celeste Barber.

In 2025, Becca unveils her debut album God in Chains, part-licensed via YR Records and mixed in Dolby Atmos. Released in sync with the moon phases, the two-volume project (Vol. 1 autumn 2025, Vol. 2 due 2026) pairs sonic depth with goddess-inspired visuals, tracing a cycle of death, rebirth, and self-realisation through singles 'God in Chains', 'Holy Bed', 'Revolution', and 'Bloom'.

The album has drawn praise from
Clash Magazine, describing it as “recalling early AURORA, London Grammar, or Florence & The Machine at her spiritual best,” and from Radio One’s Jess Izzatt, who celebrated James’ “gorgeous vocals” on the hypnotic track Echo Chamber, featuring Mark Stoney. BBC Introducing in the North East supported the album this year with a live session alongside presenter Shakk.

Becca has built a strong live track record, with headline shows at The Folklore Rooms and  Camden Chapel; showcases at Stereo Covent Garden, The Ned, and Sofar Newcastle; and standout performances at the Global Youth Awards (Troxy, 2023; Museum of London, 2024). In late autumn-winter, she supported soulful artist Matreya (FKA Mason Noise) on tour, with shows at Green Note, Camden (24 November), Boston Tea Party, Birmingham (29 November), and Hyde Park Book Club, Leeds (3 December).

She has also co-hosted and performed at wellness events at Lindisfarne Festival, blending music with yoga, meditation and healing practices.
In 2026, Becca continues to diversify her connection to healing sounds by qualifying in Sound Therapy at the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST) and will soon host soundbath experiences.

Alongside her solo artistry, Becca has collaborated widely across the UK and Europe, with songwriting credits with artists Cheska Moore and Al Coffey, alongside experience of songwriting camps through Tileyard Education with Elements Publishing Helsinki and AWAL, as well as the DPA (Danish Professional Songwriters/Producers Association) and Noatune Studios (find cuts here). As a session vocalist, James features on tracks with GeO Gospel Choir (Abbey Road Studio) and Tranza Studio’s performance film Alone.

In 2026, Becca continues to step fully into her defining vision with God in Chains and it's B-side, a transformative body of work rooted in mysticism, resilience and the healing power of music.

“[God in Chains] starts like a drizzle over the Tyne and ends like a full blown North Sea Storm. She's not just embracing vulnerability, but turning it into a superpower." [Shakk, BBC Intro in the North East]

‘Bloom’ radiates with beauty – a vision of Spring energy, it’s dappled with light, the precocious digi-pop format recalling early Aurora, London Grammar, or Florence & The Machine at her spiritual best. [Clash Magazine]
